About Martha

Martha Flores is the registered dietitian and health and wellness coordinator in Dining Services on the WSU Pullman campus. She completed her undergraduate studies in nutrition at the University of Nevada, Reno and her master’s degree in clinical nutrition at Rutgers University.

Early in her career, Martha wanted to become a pediatrician but quickly realized that studying medicine wasn’t for her. She started studying nutrition but didn’t initially consider becoming a dietitian because she didn’t see other dietitians who shared her Mexican American heritage. But when she started working in a hospital and the dietitians there began asking her for advice on how to effectively communicate with Spanish-speaking patients, she realized being a dietitian was exactly what she was meant to do.

As a Mexican American, Martha knows how important food is to a person’s culture. She understands it can be frustrating to go somewhere to eat and not find familiar food, especially when you are homesick. She has a passion for helping students navigate food and the dining centers, finding culturally relevant foods that meet their dietary needs. Martha’s background includes working as a pediatric dietitian, and she loves working with younger people and positively impacting their eating habits. Whether students are concerned about food allergies, have questions about how food can impact a chronic disease, or simply want to know how to make good food choices, Martha can help!

Martha is new to the Palouse, having started her position with Dining Services in 2023. When not on campus, Martha enjoys playing with her dog, hiking, and watching Ru Paul’s Drag Race.
